Clean Boats Clean Waters (CBCW)

HFRLA actively participates in the Clean Boats Clean Waters watercraft inspection program. In the initial phase of our involvement we used and trained lake association members to conduct the inspection program at our main public boat landing to High Lake located on county highway B. We found it difficult to sustain the program this way due to members short and variable time spent on the lakes. As an alternative, in 2015 we participated in the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh summer intern program which gave us 200 hours of inspector time on a pre-scheduled basis. In 2018, we joined the Boulder Junction Lakes Alliance Committee, which will be taking over the administration of this intern program (on a limited community-wide basis) where we will again receive 200 hours of inspection services.

The goal of the program is to assist boaters with incoming/outgoing boat and trailer inspections to eliminate extraneous plant material that may be transferred from lake to lake. Additionally, inspectors will be reminding boaters to drain live wells, boat hulls, and bait buckets to eliminate the possible transfer of infected waters being introduced into other water bodies. These activities form the basis of an extended awareness of the issues associated with aquatic invasive species.
